NRL 22
NRL22 is a nationwide precision rifle league using 22lr rifles and air guns with a focus on growing and introducing new shooters in the sport. Each 10 or 12 round stage is two minutes and consists of multiple targets and/or positions that the shooter must engage in the correct order following the stage briefing. The target distances on each stage generally run from about 30yds out to 100yds.
While you don’t have to be an NRL22 member to compete, if you are there are several benefits. Your monthly scores are entered into the nationwide database where they have monthly prize drawings and your scores are compiled to calculate your skill ranking from Novice all the way up to Expert. In addition, you can qualify for the national match they have every year. The available classes are: young gun, ladies, old guns, air rifle, adaptive, base, and open.
Additional information can be found at NRL22.com and you can sign up for the matches at ORSA by going to Practiscore.com and searching for ORSA NRL22.
Rimfire Sporter
What is Rimfire Sporter? A founding concept was to make this a match everyone could shoot by letting them use rimfire plinking and hunting rifles that many already own. The idea is to bring out your .22 rifle, have some fun, and work on your marksmanship skills. Most types of smallbore rifles can be used, whether they are semi-automatics or manually operated, with separate classes for telescopic and open-sighted rifles. Rimfire Sporter rifles are .22LR caliber and limited to 7.5 pounds (including sights and a magazine) and must have triggers that lift at least 3.0 pounds and must be configured as standard sporter rifles. No specialized shooting jackets or other performance-enhancing equipment is allowed. A sling and heavy glove are allowed. The club has target rifles with slings you may borrow. Ammo is also available at the matches. The Rimfire Sporter course of fire was modeled after the high-power rifle National Match Course. Three positions, prone, sitting or kneeling, and standing are used. The course of fire includes both slow-fire and rapid-fire stages for each position. Rimfire Sporter matches are shot outdoors at 50 and 25 yards, and indoors using 50-foot reduced targets. Both indoor and outdoor matches are planned, depending on time of year and range availability.
