Highpower
The High Power (HP) Competition Range is used for organized, ORSA-sponsored tournaments, leagues, and training clinics. When not scheduled for sanctioned events, the HP Rifle Competition Range may be used by qualified ORSA members for competition practice. Qualified members must hold a competitor classification card in a least one NRA rifle discipline, or must have a current CMP competitor number. Non-qualified ORSA members may use the HP Rifle Competition Range only when accompanied and supervised by a qualified ORSA Rifle and Pistol Club member. This HP Rifle Competition Range is widely recognized as one of the premier HP competition venues in the Nation. To protect ORSA’S investment and to prevent damage to this facility, all other casual, non-competition shooting is strictly prohibited.
Competitive rifle and pistol events at ORSA are among the most diverse and numerous of any club in the United States, and ORSA is one of the few civilian-owned and controlled 1000-yard rifle ranges. The club boasts an active High Power Rifle program with CMP, NRA, and Palma Council sanctioned events, hosting over 70 sanctioned and informal events during the shooting season. These include NRA and CMP High Power, Long Range, Smallbore, air and rimfire benchrest, CMP M1 Garand, M1903 Springfield, M1 Carbine, Vintage Military, Vintage Sniper Team, Springfield M1-A, and black powder matches. ORSA has sent teams to the Camp Perry National Matches every year since the early 50s, and our competitors include national champions. Our rifle shooters are welcoming and eager to help newcomers get started.
New Shooters
Welcome to our New Shooter FAQ. Your interest in marksmanship excellence puts you in good company, both from a historical perspective and with our rifle and pistol shooters. Rifle and Pistol Marksmanship, from the earliest days of our republic, has been an American tradition and a coveted skill. As you progress, you will find that being a competitive shooter is one the most challenging and rewarding activities you will ever engage in, and the friends you make as a competitor will be some of the best you will ever have.
The rifle and pistol shooters at ORSA are absolutely dedicated to teaching firearms safety, marksmanship, and how to be an effective competitor, and these activities are conducted on some of the finest ranges that can be found anywhere. Here are some frequently-asked questions to help you understand our program and how to get started.
Where do I start?
New shooters typically begin by participating in one of several “Civilian Marksmanship Program New Shooter Clinics” at ORSA. When you register, you will receive a confirmation email. Be sure to follow the instructions in the clinic announcement on what to bring and wear to the clinic. The most valuable aspect of the clinics is that participants are able to ask questions, receive instruction, and interact with their coaches in a way that is not possible during a competitive event.
What will I experience and learn in the clinic?
What do I buy/need?
I am interested in competitive shooting! What are the next steps after I finish the clinic?
When can I compete?
I don’t have any or all of my equipment, yet? How can I participate?
