Action Pistol Club
We currently shoot five action pistol disciplines at the Club:
- IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Assoc)
- USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Assoc.)
- Cowboy Action
- Multigun
- Steel Challenge matches
Our normal match schedule is IDPA on the first Saturday of each month, Cowboy Action on the second weekend, USPSA on the third, and Steel Challenge and 3-Gun on the fourth. Check out the individual pages for more info. These matches are open to all, ORSA members and the public.
The action pistol club also sets requirements for member access to the action pistol range for practice outside of match times.
Cowboy Action Club
Cowboy Action Shooting is a safe, fun, family oriented competitive shooting sport for folks who enjoy shooting Old Western era type single action firearms. You can step back in time or step onto the silver screen and be a cowboy/cowgirl for the day.
SASS Wild Bunch™ Action Shooting is a multifaceted amateur shooting sport in which contestants compete with firearms typical of those used in the taming of the Old West just after the turn of the 20th century: 1911 semi-automatic pistols, lever action rifles, and shotguns. The shooting competition is staged in a unique, characterized, Old West style.
The Oak Ridge Outlaws are an authorized and fully affiliated sub-club of the Oak Ridge Sportsmen’s Association and are a fully affiliated SASS club.
Our club follows all the rules of the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) except that a round over the berm is a match disqualification.

IDPA Club
The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) is a safe, fun, shooting sport that simulates self-defense scenarios and real life encounters.
One of the unique facets of this sport is that it is geared toward the new or average shooter, yet is fun, challenging and rewarding for the experienced shooter. The founders developed the sport so that practical gear and practical guns may be used competitively. A shooter can spend a minimal amount on equipment and still be competitive.
The main goal is to test the skill and ability of the individual, not equipment or gamesmanship. “Competition only” equipment is not permitted in this sport.
We operate as an authorized and fully affiliated sub-club of the Oak Ridge Sportsmen’s Association and follow all the rules as set forth by the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) parent organization.

Multigun (3 Gun) Club
A modern-day action filled match that is a drag race against the clock. Using multiple guns, competitors maneuver through fun and challenging stages requiring speed and accuracy. Target engagement can be clay pigeons only feet away to steel gongs at 100+ yards.
We run under the United Multigun League (UML) rule set, and accept shooters with many combinations of rifle, PCC, pistol, or shotgun. You don’t need to have a fancy shotgun to come out and have a blast!

New Shooters Welcome

USPSA Club
The United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) is a fun, exciting, competitive shooting sport that stresses safety while providing a venue to practice your handgun and pistol caliber carbine (PCC) handling skills.
USPSA provides the shooter with a choice of divisions to compete in, providing a range of equipment choices. You do not need a high dollar “race gun” to compete in USPSA. You can compete in Production division with off the shelf, stock handguns such as a Sig 320 or 226, Glocks, Smith and Wesson M&Ps, or Springfield XDs. Detailed information about the various divisions can be found at USPSA.org. Along with a 9-mm or larger caliber gun, you will need a holster, enough magazines for 40-50 rounds of ammunition, and some magazine pouches.
At our monthly matches, we typically have seven stages, with the round count per stage ranging from as little as 6 rounds to as many as 32 rounds. Our stages may include steel targets, paper targets, swingers, disappearing targets, and present a challenge for all shooters, regardless of talent level and experience. Plan on bringing a minimum of 200 to 250 rounds.
We operate as an authorized and fully affiliated sub-club of the Oak Ridge Sportsmen’s Association and follow all the rules as set forth by USPSA.
